I am continually amazed by Mother Nature’s creativity in Texas skies and her endless shades of color.
I named this painting, Amethyst Afternoon because of the striking resemblance between this sky and the highly-coveted amethyst gemstone. Made of quartz, amethysts come in a wide array of transparent shades of purple. As I watched the layers of clouds shift on this particular day, a kaleidoscope of purples danced across my canvas.
Since ancient times, purple has been associated with royalty—and as I admired this marvelously mauve piece, it was easy to see why.
