Throughout my life, I’ve witnessed how art can bring people and communities together, communicating messages, feelings and ideas without words. I recently experienced this firsthand as the featured artist at The Texas Lyceum’s annual conference in Abilene.
The conference topic was “The State of Mental Health in Texas,” and they selected one of my favorite paintings for an auction to support their educational initiatives. Featured above on the commemorative event poster, “Looking West Counting Stars” was originally painted as part of a series. At four different times of day, I set my easel in the same spot to capture the beauty of the landscape in varying light. This particular piece was painted at night, the most peaceful time at the ranch, when the sky was full of stars hidden behind thick clouds that created stunning rays of light. I love how this painting conveys a feeling of hope with just a single glance.
It was an honor to be part of this special event, and knowing that my work will help fund The Texas Lyceum’s important efforts across the state makes it even more meaningful.
Featured painting: Looking West Counting Stars, 30×40 inches, framed acrylic on canvas, SOLD.
