When I first returned to painting, everything seemed like a challenge, but I worked tirelessly and soon felt confident tackling clouds, trees and awesome skyscapes, which are deceptively hard to get right. However, this new collection introduced a whole new challenge: painting coral.
One afternoon, as I walked along the edge of a cliff, I realized I was surrounded by miles of coral. If you’ve ever studied coral close up, you understand how complicated it is to capture on canvas. Every reef is made of layers and layers of hard calcium carbonate skeletons with seaweed tangled throughout. I was in awe of the beauty and couldn’t wait to bring this special moment back to Texas.
