One day at dusk at our ranch, I finished this sublime yet powerful small painting. As I worked, the 1942 Bette Davis movie, “Now, Voyager” kept coming to mind—a love story about a woman who embarks on a cruise and takes a life-changing risk. My brushstrokes began to resemble the vastness of the open sea, an abyss stretching out to the horizon. It was one of my mother’s favorite Bette Davis films (but she loved them all). Thinking of my mother as I cleaned my paint brushes, I decided I liked the name and penned “Now Voyager” on the back of the painting
Later that evening, as I was winding down for the night, I turned on the Turner Classic Movies channel. To my complete surprise, they were playing a “Bette Davis Movie Marathon” and “Now, Voyager” had just started. Naturally, I watched it—still awed by the coincidence. Or maybe, it wasn’t a coincidence at all?
Featured painting: Now Voyager, 6×6 inches, framed acrylic on canvas, $565.
