THE ART OF GAY GADDIS

An Evening of Gratitude

Gwyneths View Newsletter

One of the moments I am most grateful for is a trip I took with my daughter, Rebecca, to the Umbria region of Italy. I brought my canvases and paints and made time to soak in the beautiful skies and rolling countryside, translating that experience into a series of paintings. I named the collection The Italian Job. One of the pieces, features a field of newly baled hay is entitled, Rotoballes in Umbria. Rotoballes is the Italian word for round hay bales, just like the ones we make at the Double Heart Ranch.

The painting above set in a regal frame, is appropriately named Gwyneth’s View, after a breathtaking evening in the Umbrian countryside, where the sky burned with fiery oranges, deep reds and electric blues that seemed to set the horizon alight. Hidden in shadow is a mysterious landscape dotted with secluded villas, including one that has welcomed the warmth of Gwyneth Paltrow, whom I am grateful to spend time with, including on this special trip with my daughter. As I worked, I tried to capture not just the drama of the sunset, but also the sense of calm wonder that settles over you in that moment when day turns to night.
