When I painted Fiesta Time, I wanted to capture that electric moment when the sky comes alive just before nightfall. Deep blues gather at the top, rich and moody, while below, a flaming red sun sinks into the horizon, sending bursts of vivid orange and yellow blazing across the canvas. The whole sky feels like it’s in motion—a true fiesta of color and energy, bold and unapologetic in its celebration of the day’s final light.
That same spirit came rushing to life for me recently after hosting UT’s Texas Cowboys following their annual group photo at the State Capitol. More than 125 Cowboys filled my home, and what began as a gathering turned into a full-blown fiesta with live mariachi music, tacos and a kind of joy that you could feel in every corner. Watching the evening unfold, and later seeing the energy captured in an Instagram video, I realized it was the very same feeling I had poured into this painting. Fiesta Time is that moment—high-spirited, vibrant and impossible to contain.
