When I painted I Hear the Rolling Thunder, I wanted to capture the music of a rainy day—the sky churning with deep slate and silver clouds, streaks of rain slicing diagonally across the canvas and flashes of lightning hinting at the power behind the booming storm. From the horizon to the foreground, the sky is streaked with powerful rain, each droplet bringing life to the vast Texas prairie.
As I take in the Texas Hill Country, some sounds are peaceful, some startling, but all are part of the rhythm of nature. When the rain finally comes, it’s a sound I celebrate. It means renewal, life, and the promise that the land will bloom again.
