Every once in a while, I’m lured into watching an old western movie on TV. Inevitably, one of the best parts of the film is when the hero, or villain, turns to their posse and says, “We ride at dawn!” I don’t know about you, but it always makes me want to saddle up and join them.
That’s exactly the feeling I had when I painted this new piece. There’s something about the night sky fading away as a new dawn breaks that pulls you in. It’s a skyscape fit for John Wayne himself.
