One of the pieces in my Italian Job collection features a field of newly baled hay rolling across the Umbrian countryside. Rotoballes is the Italian word for round hay bales, and seeing those familiar shapes in a field halfway around the world immediately reminded me of the ones we make at Double Heart Ranch.
Hay bales are more than a beautiful part of the landscape. They represent the rain that made the grass grow, the hard work of harvesting it and the preparation that helps carry us through the winter. Whether in Umbria or Texas, it’s easy to take something as simple as a hay field for granted, but these everyday scenes are reminders of how much there is to be grateful for.
For me, this painting is an invitation to slow down and notice the beauty around us. There is always another season ahead, another field to tend and another blessing worth appreciating if we take the time to look.
