When I painted Caribbean Coral, I wanted to capture the irresistible pull of the wide, open ocean—the sky and water bursting with what feels like thousands of shades of blue, layered as they stretch endlessly across the canvas. Along the rocky shoreline, coral formations emerge both beneath the seafoam and above the surface, their jagged edges catching the light and stirring a sense of curiosity that beckons you closer.
But as with so much in nature, beauty often carries a hidden warning. The same coral that dazzles with its texture and form can also be sharp and unforgiving, rising unexpectedly from the water and reminding curious beachcombers and swimmers to tread carefully. There is both wonder and danger here, an invitation to admire, explore and respect what lies just beyond the shore.
Framed in a bold white frame with a wide border, the painting itself seems to peek through, drawing the viewer in.
