When I painted Beach Girl, I was captivated by the beauty of a bright blue sky filled with fluffy white clouds rolling above a breezy Caribbean shoreline. The ocean was alive with roaring waves crashing onto the sand as a young woman walked bravely into the surf, undeterred and full of quiet confidence. From my place on the shore, safely seated with paintbrush in hand, I watched the scene unfold and did what artists do best: tried to capture not just what I saw, but what I felt.
What makes this painting especially dear to me is knowing that the brave young beach girl stepping fearlessly into those waves is my own daughter. Brilliant and loyal through and through, she is not only my greatest gift but my dearest friend. As I look ahead to traveling with her this summer, I’m reminded how grateful I am to share both life’s adventures and its quiet, beautiful moments with my favorite companion.
