When I painted Sunset in Umbria, I was captivated by the way the sky deepens from a rich, velvety blue into softer hues as it reaches the setting sun. Billowing clouds drift across the canvas, catching the light of a striking orange sun that scatters warmth along the horizon, all of it filtering down into the lush Tuscan landscape below. It was a moment of stillness and beauty I didn’t want to let pass.
I painted this while on vacation with my daughter, holding close the joy of simply being together in a place that invited us to slow down. As I look at it now, I see not just that evening, but the promise of what’s ahead. This past season has been hectic but fruitful, full of growth and motion. Yet this piece reminds me that what I’m craving most is time—to rest, to recharge, and to reconnect with my number one creation, my daughter, as we prepare for our next venture together.
