When I painted Rain Dance, I was thinking about how storms demand our attention. The sky in the piece is restless—swirling, shifting, never still. Although storm clouds were overhead, as the sun was setting the bright light of hope in the sun was breaking through the clouds.
To me, this piece mirrors those moments in life when we’re confronted with turbulence we can’t ignore. Sometimes the wisest choice is to face the storm head on, to let the rain wash over us and trust that we’ll emerge stronger. Other times it is about finding shelter until the skies clear. This painting lives in that tension, reminding me that both courage and care have their place when the winds rise.
