When I painted Serape Sunrise, I wanted to capture the joy and warmth of a Texas morning, as the bold bands of color stretching across the sky reminded me of the vibrant hues and woven patterns of a Mexican serape blanket. The rich reds, golds and blues pulse with the energy of a new day.
In Rabbi Rachel Ain’s New York City sermon, where she shared my book Cowgirl Power, I loved how she told the congregation, “I have become full-on Texas.” That sentiment perfectly fits this piece. Serape Sunrise invites anyone, no matter where they’re from, to wrap themselves in the beauty of a Texas sky and feel its radiant embrace.
